Prairie Island Indian Community Donates Matching Funds
to Minnesota Hockey and MSE Community Giving

Welch, Minn. (April 15, 2009) The Prairie Island Indian Community and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild have partnered during the 2008-2009 hockey season and youth hockey across the state came out the winner. A check in the amount of $107,000 was presented by the Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council to Minnesota Hockey and the MSE Community Giving Fund.

The Prairie Island Indian Community pledged to match all dollars raised through the sales of Wild game programs during the season. The Minnesota Wild has been working with youth hockey game program sales since the club’s inception in 2000. Wild regular season game programs sell for $3. All proceeds raised through the sale of game programs by youth hockey teams were donated to Minnesota Hockey and the MSE Community Giving Fund.
“When we approached the Minnesota Wild with an idea for a partnership, we couldn’t imagine the program would be so successful,” said Ron Johnson, Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council President. “The Wild’s support of youth programs closely match the Prairie Island Indian’s Community mission of working with youth and helping them develop leadership skills.”

“The Prairie Island Indian Community has a strong history of giving over the years,” said Treasure Island General Manager Allan Kronberg. “We are proud to partner with the Minnesota Wild and take pride in the fact that we have been able to donate millions to worthy causes as we continue this tradition of giving.”
Prairie Island Indian Community and Treasure Island Resort & Casino have placed great value in supporting charitable organizations. It is important to give back to the communities and people who have helped the Prairie Island Indian Community grow.
